One Line is a string sculpture I did a long time ago, before working on Notice or Focus with John Warren. The piece is about 20" cubed, and consists of 2 panels of perforated metal and one line of sewing thread woven through all the perforations (not one string of thread, but a continuous line).

The strings imply a volume that seems more or less solid depending on lighting and viewing angle. The simple pattern of weaving a string through a grid of perforations is made more complex by rotating one of the panels 90 degrees. This causes several overlapping patterns to result from a simple procedure.
