Gilbert/Gilbert Textbook Covers
Textbook covers for two math textbooks by Jimmie and Linda Gilbert (my parents). The images were created with a particle system program of self-organizing shapes. These shapes arrange themselves in patterns that refer to concepts from the books, such as mappings between sets of points.
These books were scheduled to come out around the same time, so they were made simlar and promoted alongside one another.
The program was written in Java and was one outcome of several experiments in self-organizing systems, which are systems with many elements working independently with simple goals, while the overall structure of the system reveals a more complex pattern.
